After publishing “I hope she’s ok” in November last year, I have been taking it easy. I needed a bit of free time because making a game is hard work! I didn’t even write a new post to announce that the game is available on Steam!
Even though I slowed my work phase massively after the publishing, I got some nice press coverage. Here are my favourite reviews of the game from last year.
One of the first reviews came from an online gaming magazine called Hey Poor Player. The game art was well-received and the whole experience was interesting enough to play three times through.
“I hope she’s ok really channeled the mantra of “every frame a painting.” For such a short experience, I took so many screenshots just because of how beautiful the environments were.”
– Hey Poor Player
KonsoliFIN, a Finnish video game website, made an amusing review of the game. I’m happy with how it was received. The minimalism in audio and gameplay is understood, and Finnishness was well accepted even though some more drunken Finnish midsummer experiences were missed. Like peeing from a boat and fighting with the neighbours.
“I hope she’s ok deservedly represents the genre of very small-scale walking – or should I say Midsummer – simulators.”
– KonsoliFIN
I was interviewed for a Mexican online gaming magazine called Behind Gaming. I was excited to answer questions about the journey of making the game. It feels good to be noticed for it; after all, I spent almost two years making the game.
Buried Treasure, a blog reviewing undiscovered indie games, published an entertaining and analytical review of the game. This article was really interesting to read. I was delighted by how well the game was received and my storytelling decisions were appreciated by the writer.
“I think the social media narrative delivery is a brilliant idea, one I hope a bunch of other people have the sense to steal.”
– Buried Treasure
Gaming podcast Weekly Jump also got interested in “I hope she’s ok”. I was excited and nervous when they announced on Twitter that they were starting to play the game. Fortunately they really enjoyed playing it. You can find the fun and exciting review of the game in their weekly podcast.
